Mehmet Ayhan Demirsu

Mehmet Ayhan Demirsu

Founder

He was born in Kars on June 15, 1931, and grew up in various cities and towns of Turkiye due to his father's military service.

After completing his primary, secondary and high school education in Samsun, Izmir and Istanbul, he graduated from Istanbul University Geology-Geography Department in 1954. He received a scholarship from the Turkish Education Attaché in New York and studied English at Queens College in New York. He received a master's degree in Subsurface Geological Engineering and Geophysical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1957.

He worked as a regional geologist for Robert H. Ray Co. in Texas. He later worked at Index Geophysical Surveys Corporation and Statex Petroleum, Inc. and founded his own research company, Demirsu & Associates, Inc.

His father's will was to be a useful person for his country and especially to create employment. To fulfill this will, he returned to Turkiye and founded the Thrace Basin Natural Gas Company (TBNG) in Ankara on January 31, 1983, to operate in all areas of natural gas production.

TBNG still continues its activities as the largest private natural gas producer, as its founder dreamed. Mehmet Ayhan Demirsu, a Galatasaray enthusiast, was buried in Istanbul after his death on August 20, 2011.
